How to contribute?

Every user can contribute to the project. You can do so directly on the filming location database website. Simply follow the link and fill out the form. Thank you for doing so!

Form fields

Not all form fields are required, but the more information you submit, the more complete and relevant the database will become. The following fields are mandatory:

Not all field labels may be intuitive what they mean right away. In addition, we only want certain data in our database. Here’s a little help with that.

Location name

The name of the location in English. Depending on the situation, it might be a building or area like “Eiffel tower” or “University of Berne”. Sometimes a reference to the scene in the movie or TV show is better, e.g. “Launch of Apollo 11”. Try to keep it short.

Native name

The native name of the location (if applicable, otherwise leave empty). This is probably the case when the location is in a country where the native language is not English. Please fill in the name in its native writing system (e.g. “萬里長城” for The Great Wall in China).

Description

A description of the scene for users to know why the location is there. For TV shows, also add the season/episode. Example: “s01e04 illustrates the challenges of a Mars colony with the McMurdo Station in the Antartica.”

Movie or TV show

The movie or TV show the location is featured in.

Lat/Lon

The latitude and longitude of the location. OpenStreetMap gives you the lat/lon for nodes, for areas or relations use Nominatim.

OpenStreetMap

The URL to the OpenStreetMap node, way or relation, e.g. https://www.openstreetmap.org/way/774122768.

A link to a flickr image. Link to the image page, not the image itself (e.g. https://www.flickr.com/photos/sean_x_liu/20672046800/). Only add images with a copyleft that allows commercial use (e.g. CC-BY). This ensures that all images in the database are legal to use in a commercial project.

A link to an image from Wikimedia Commons. Link to the image page, not the image itself (e.g. https://commons.wikimedia.org/wiki/File:First_Launch_of_SpaceX_Falcon_Heavy.jpg). Only add images with a copyleft that allows commercial use (e.g. CC-BY). This ensures that all images in the database are legal to use in a commercial project.

Link to Wikipedia article

A link to a Wikipedia article. It might be a link about the location itself, or an article that is related to what happens at the location (e.g. the company located at that location).

Official website

A link to the official website of the location or an entity that is related to what happens at the location (e.g. the company located at that location).

Source

How you know about the location. As of now, these are the options you can use:

If you have the data from a different source that is compatible with the ODbL, please state so. For example, NASA makes most of its data available to the public domain.

Name or pseudonym

You can add your name/pseudonym and the data will be added under that name/pseudonym. Otherwise it will be added anonymously. However, the front-end doesn’t show contributing users yet, but this will change when more users engage.

E-Mail

Adding your e-mail address can be useful if we have further questions about your submission. If you submit your name and e-mail, both of them will be associated with your submission. However, only moderators will be able to see your e-mail address.
